Key Takeaways

  • Health is Optimization: True wellness goes beyond standard “normal” lab ranges to optimize physical performance, mental clarity, and longevity through tailored nutrition, sleep, biohacking, and peptides.
  • Practice What You Preach: Authenticity and personal integrity build trust; practitioners must live the habits and standards they encourage in their patients.
  • MedFit Integration: The future of health lies at the intersection of traditional fitness and clinical medicine, utilizing evidence-based modalities like physician-guided peptide and hormone therapies.
Dr. Michael Ellis, DO, is the owner and medical director of Keep Glowing Medical Spa in Tinton Falls, NJ, specializing in hormone replacement therapy, medically guided weight loss, regenerative medicine, and peptide therapy. He also serves as partner and medical director for Live Fierce Medical, Archangel Wellness, and Archangel Rehab Center, and COO of NuPilates Fitness.
Here is his insight on building a thriving career in modern health and wellness, staying resilient through market shifts, and optimizing patient care.

Backstory & Inspiration

Can you tell us a bit about your backstory and how you grew up?
“I was born and raised on Long Island in a traditional, large Italian family. I’ve lived a healthy, active lifestyle my whole life—playing lacrosse, working as a lifeguard and volunteer firefighter, and lifting weights since I was 17.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at Penn State University and earned my medical degree from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine at Virginia Tech. After completing my internal medicine residency at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, NJ, I practiced inpatient medicine before deciding to open my own wellness clinic.”
What inspired you to go all-in on a wellness-focused lifestyle and career?
“During my sophomore year of college, I worked for a physical therapist who took me to orthopedic surgery conferences, which sparked my drive to pursue medicine. Later, while working in the hospital, I encountered disparities and limitations in traditional care due to time constraints and insurance restrictions. That realization pushed me to establish a clinic focused on true, preventative health.”

Daily Routines & Business Beginnings

What is your go-to routine for personal wellness?
“I practice what I preach. I’m in the gym 3 to 4 days a week, monitor my bloodwork regularly, and track sleep and recovery using wearable devices. I’ve utilized hormone replacement therapy for eight years and follow an extensive peptide protocol for cognitive health, recovery, anti-aging, and maintaining lean muscle.”
How did your passion turn into a full-scale business?
“I originally opened my clinic during COVID as an aesthetic spa with hormone replacement therapy as a secondary offering. Soon after, interest surged in hormone optimization, peptides, and weight loss. I shifted our core focus to these evidence-based wellness modalities, and the practice exploded in popularity.”
What was your biggest initial challenge?
“Launching in the middle of a global pandemic was tough. However, it opened society’s eyes: people realized that managing chronic issues by just taking a pill wasn’t enough. There’s been a massive shift toward preventative health. By staying transparent, listening to patients, and educating them, we built a high-trust community.”

Emerging Projects & Holistic Recovery

What impact are you aiming to make through your current projects?
“My goal is to shift how people approach aging and preventative care, as well as transform addiction recovery.
  • Archangel Wellness: Partnering with Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino at the Archangel Centers to combine traditional 12-step programs with advanced bloodwork, dietary support, vitamin supplementation, peptide therapies, and hormone balancing to help the body physically recover from substance abuse.
  • Live Fierce Medical: Integrating medical wellness, recovery, and peptide protocols into W.O.L.F. Gym locations.
  • NuPilates Fitness: Launching a modern, strength-focused Pilates concept designed for functional movement.
  • AEONE Telemedicine: Partnering with Aminoquest Labs to launch a physician-guided telehealth platform for high-quality peptide protocols.”

5 Things You Need for a Successful Career in Health & Wellness

1. Integrity, Trust, Genuine Relationships, and Empathy

Success depends heavily on credibility. Focus on sustainable results rather than quick fixes. Listen carefully, educate your clients, and build a partnership so they understand why a treatment works.

2. Adaptability & Innovation

The wellness space evolves quickly. A few years ago, peptides were a niche topic; today, they dominate health discussions. To provide high-quality care, you must continuously stay educated on emerging science and adapt.

3. Patience

Wellness is a lifelong journey—results don’t happen overnight for patients or businesses. Providers need to convey confidence and help clients trust the long-term process.

4. Confidence

With the sheer volume of health information (and misinformation) on social media, you must be educated and confident enough to correct misconceptions and guide clients accurately.

5. Personal Integrity & Resilience

You cannot provide optimal care if you don’t live the lifestyle yourself. Authenticity, healthy boundaries, and practicing what you preach are essential for long-term resilience.

Defining Wellness & The Future of Peptides

How do you define true wellness?
“Wellness is optimizing the body, not just staying within standard lab ranges. Standard ranges cover everyone from 18 to 99 years old, whether healthy or sick. Optimizing labs through nutrition, sleep, supplements, peptides, and hormone therapy ensures your body functions at its peak.”
What movement would you start to promote health nationwide?
“I am a huge advocate for physician-guided peptide therapy. Peptides have the power to prevent chronic disease, support cellular repair, and extend healthspan. However, they must be administered under the care of a trained medical professional—not self-guided or taken from social media advice.”
